I Love a Laggan Wedding

With every Lagan wedding I photograph I feel spoiled. This is a place of inspiration for adventurers. A place that evolves throughout the year with changing light, colour and vegetation - always more to discover, explore and seek out.

You might be unaware of the Solway Coast’s beauty. If you’re just finding out, Laggan is the place to come and start your discovery.

What is this place?

Laggan is a place for true wanderers. It's clear - Laggan holds a special place in the hearts of those who choose it for their wedding. Nestled between the sea and the mountains you will find a captivating best of both worlds. Are you a mountain person? We’ll hike uphill and gaze out to the distant islands... A coastal person? Let’s venture down to the tapestry of textures that form Mossyard Beach.

What makes it extra special?

Laggan sits at the point where the sea meets the hills linked by the Laggan burn. My first wedding at Laggan was Tiree & Stuart's day in 2018. I can vividly recall venturing down to the beach and being awed by the rocky shoreline. There comes a point in photography where you no longer have to seek out the photographs - they seem to come to you - compositions present themselves and the light is magical; the moments flow and everything falls into place before your lens.

And with each visit since I have found myself reminded how lucky, how blessed I am to be photographing here - in a place which offers up new opportunities on every visit.

Summertime brings sun-bleached grasses and as the year turns to autumn the bracken on the hillside blushes into its red hues. By winter the golden light bathes the south-facing slopes of Laggan in warmth - chasing away the cool temperatures of the frosty mornings. Spring completes the annual cycle with a green flush of dewy grasses and unfurling ferns.

This is a place of wonder and I never tire of discovering its hidden gems.

What advice would I give to couples looking to get married at Laggan?

Find out what time of day golden hour will be and when the light comes - be ready to catch it.

Golden hour can be spectacular on a clear day at Laggan - the south facing aspect is beautifully positioned to catch the setting sun and you don’t need to devote a huge chunk of time to capture it - just be prepared to down pudding spoons if needs be and run outside for five minutes to capture the golden glow at its peak.
